Our next big stop was Wanaka. The rainy weather still had been following us so we decided to do some indoor activities. So, Puzzle World it was. This was a really neat place to visit. They had this cool tower outside that you could take pictures under.

Inside they had four Illusion rooms: The Hologram Hall, Hall of Following Faces, The Ames Illusion Room, and the Tilted House. The first one was really neat, but just full of holograms – so we didn’t get any pictures of that. The second room was very puzzling. It was a room with 168 concave pictures of people on the wall. When you walk all through the room, every face – no matter where it’s placed in the room – follows you. And not just with his eyes, his whole face turns. Crazy! The third room was my favorite. This Ames Illusion Room tricks your eye into thinking that one person is a midget while the other person is a giant. It’s simply brilliant! Here are some pictures of Colin and I.

Then there was the Tilted House. This room, if stayed in too long, strangely enough made you motion sick. The whole room was tilted – so you were walking at an angle. The funny thing is, they made water look like it was flowing uphill and a pool ball look like it was rolling uphill. I know it all had to do with angles, but it was still crazy to look at. Here are some funny pictures of us in the tilted room.

They also had a funny bathroom… Colin preferred this old Roman bathroom more than our modern ones…

The came the giant Labyrinth. The big maze was outside – where it was still raining – but we really wanted to give it a try. You had two ways of completing this maze. The first one was just to find your way to each of the four corners and then back to the beginning (takes usually 30min to 1 hr). The second and hard way is to find each corner in order and then back to the beginning (takes 1-1.5 hrs). We had wanted to try the hard way, but after more than 35 minutes of finally finding all four corners (not in order) we were soaked and still had to find our way back to the beginning. So after spending another 10 minutes finding our way back to the beginning, we were pretty cold, soaked and ready to be finished. Here are some pictures of the labyrinth.

Then we sat inside the lounge area and worked on a couple of puzzles that they had set out for everyone to try. Colin was hooked on the “Amazing T” puzzle and had to stay until it was solved. After combining our efforts and our stress levels maxed out – we figured it out!
