Our next stop was Glenorchy. This is a small town about 45km outside of Queenstown. It is a bit out of the way because it dead ends after awhile. So, you eventually have to drive back through Queenstown to get anywhere. However, everyone said it was a stop that was unregrettable so we decided to go. It was an absolutely stunning drive and once you turned the corner, it was like a hidden picture perfect photograph you barely wanted to drive through and mess up. We got a few photographs to try and display the beauty, but we came nowhere near… even though the pictures are great! (There was quite a few Lord of the Rings scenes that were filmed in this area – two being the Misty Mountains and Isengard.)

Then we drove a bit more up the road and stopped at the beginning of the Routeburn track. The Routebourn is a very walked track in New Zealand. Since we ran into some great weather, we got out and hiked to almost the first hut. It was an amazing hike and we followed the bluest and most see-through river I’ve ever seen. The water was easily over 8ft in some parts and you could see the pebbles, rocks, and twigs that were on the bottom. That would never happen in a river in Texas.

We also ran into some snow! It even started to snow on us at one point in the hike.
