So this was our free day in Queenstown. Since Colin and I knew we’d be coming back, we decided to take a hike instead of spending tons of money on adventure activities. We chose the Ben Lomond track which went up to a summit of over 1700m. First we went up the Gondola (which saved us 500m of walking up!!) then began our treck from there. Overall it was a little over 2 hours getting up and another 1.5 hours to get down. We saw some amazing views and the weather was completely on our side! This first picture was taken just a few minutes in. The summit we climbed was the upper right peak. If you look very closely – you can see me walking on a path more to the lower right of the picture.

Before going back down the gondola, we decided to try the luge. We each got a couple of tickets and rode down a hill in the motorless carts – and it was so much fun! On my way down, I ended up helping a little girl move her cart out of the road because she was scared to death… needless to say, i lost my momentum and didn’t have enough speed at the end… oh well.

Then we ran into Mark so we thought we’d get his picture… but Mark, I think you’re supposed to keep you feet inside the luge!

We also saw Stan and Bruce at the lookout of the Gondola and Russell said he saw us up there as well – but apparently Russell thought he was too good to say Hi to us, so we never saw him up there. It was a little group meeting. Anyway, here is one more photo from the top of the Gondola overlooking Queenstown.
