Wellington

Back on the North Island… It was a bittersweet time as we left the place we lived for the last 8 months.  But, we were excited to be moving on with our journey and to see some of the North Island we missed on the way down.  We arrived in Wellington late afternoon – so unfortunately, the sun was setting quickly and didn’t have too much time to sightsee…  So the next morning we started with a tour of the parliament building and the beehive.  Thank goodness we decided on indoor activities because we had another weird weather day.  We saw it snow, sleet, rain, and even as we drove a bit north, saw some sun.  CRAZY!  Anyway, here is a picture of us in front of the beehive.  This is the executive wing where most of the offices are.

And here is a photo of Colin in front of the parliament building.

Next we stopped at a place called the Weta Cave.  This is a company that has done large amounts of work on Lord of the Rings, Narnia, King Kong, and many other movies.  They do everything from making weapons, costumes & makeup, sculpting, computer graphics, and tons more. They have a very small collectibles museum that you can walk through as well as a short 20 minute film of their studio.  It was fascinating and Colin now has a new ambition.. to work at the weta cave.

After our amazingly fun and cheap day (both tours were FREE!!!), it was time to head north.
