Rimu tour day 7

Rimu Tour Day 7

So, before we left Okarito for good, we needed to have a picture with our bosses.  So here it it… Shawn and Rebecca with their little boy Tannin.  (He’s really into knights right now if you couldn’t tell!)

It happened to be pouring rain all day (as it tends to do on the west coast).  We headed to Franz Josef, where the heli hikes were canceled for those who signed up (bummer!).  We ended up trying to walk to the glacier face, but the pathway was washed out by a river.  So we turned back and did another hike in some bush.  We stopped at one lookout and it was raining so hard we couldn’t even see the glacier.

We hiked down to a swing bridge and here we got some pictures.

Then we hopped on Frank and headed south to Makarora.  On the way, we made a random stop at a little hike to the beach.  Our guides had never been there and since the rain had somewhat settled, we thought we’d give it a go.  We took a few steps and realized we had to cross a knee deep river to get to the beach.  Some of us ventured across the chilly water and went to the beach.

Here is a group shot of those who crossed the river and came to the beach.  Our two guides Cristina and Ben are two on the ends (with their hand up and out) – then there’s Stan, Wayne, me, Russell, Scott, Bruce, Mark, and Colin.

Then we made one more stop at Ship Wreck Cove for one more little hike before heading into Makarora for the evening.
